I haven't, at least not until yesterday. I heard great things about her CD, Complex Simplicity, and although it did come out a few years ago it's still a great find. I mean, really how easy is it to find great music these days? The market is oversaturated with watered down music, weak lyrics, and studio voices so umm...yeah, it's pretty hard to find new music if you are stuck inside of the "matrix" so to speak. But that's another topic.

This type of music is what my blog is all about! There are artists out here that ya'll are sleeping on that got fire records either now or back in the day that you've never heard of or will here much about!

Who is this?

Teedra Moses was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana to a gospel singer mother, Shirley Moses. She later moved to Los Angeles, California with her mother and three siblings after her parents' separation.

Prior to becoming a recording artist, Moses worked with her best friend Nonja McKenzie as an assistant wardrobe stylist for artists such as Will Smith, Kelis, R. Kelly, and No Doubt. It was after breaking her leg on a video set that Moses decided to follow her heart and begin making music.

Following this epiphany, Moses teamed up with producer, Paul Poli and signed with the Number 1 Indie Record Label, TVT Records to release her debut album Complex Simplicity in August 2004. Complex Simplicity included fourteen tracks all self-penned by Moses with dominant production by Poli; which lead to the well deserved executive production credit by both Moses & Poli. The album underperformed on the U.S. chart, debuting and peaking at number one hundred and sixty-eight on the Billboard 200. However, the album was “Critically Acclaimed” and otherwise found success on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, the Top Independent Albums, and the Top Heatseekers, reaching number twenty, number eleven, and number ten, respectively.

This post is dedicated to the beautiful spirit of Aaliyah, that passed away exactly eight years ago to this day at the tender age of 22. It all seems so surreal and vivid like it just ahppened yesterday. I am a tremendous fan of Aaliyah's and I really didn't believe what happened until later that tragic day. It was heartbreaking and it was even harder to watch the making of the video. She was a beautiful young woman and had a genuine auroa about her. This post is dedicated to her today and I'll post some pictures & videos that were some of my favs. Feel free to leave a comment and request something or leave a remark about your favorite Aaliyah moment.

Mt. Vernon, New Yorkers Pete Rock (a producer/DJ) and rapper C.L. Smooth emerged in 1992 as both a powerhouse performance duo and as prolific producers. Their 1992 album Mecca and the Soul Brother was a hip-hop classic with great cuts including "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" and "Straighten It Out."

Their signature hit was “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)”, a dirge for fallen friends--namely Troy "Trouble T-Roy" Dixon, a member of Heavy D & The Boyz, who died in 1990. Separating in 1995 (shortly after a well-received Sprite TV commercial), they eventually reunited on a handful of cuts from Pete Rock’s solo recordings: Soul Survivor (1998), PeteStrumentals (2001) and Soul Survivor II (2004). They also went on a brief reunion tour as a warm up for their then-anticipated new album, which ended with a show at London's famous Jazz Cafe. Despite these intermittent collaborations, the pair has exchanged dismissive comments toward each other in separate interviews, disavowing plans for a full-fledged reunion.

How she really got into the dancing in chorus parts and was that a Michael Jackson kick towards the end?

Disliked:

Just about the whole video. I really think she could have done something big with this song and made it into a mini-story to create some effect. The dance moves weren't all that great to me only because Beyonce and Ciara have been doing so many similar things this past year.

Rating:

It's really simple and has the same concept as far as keeping Beyonce with 2 dancers as the main focus of the video. Overall, since I'm a huge Beyonce fan and this is my favorite song off her album...besides Radio...she did okay with this video. This album seems somewhat off when it comes to videos because B'Day really had some great ones compared to the crap we've been getting (see Ego, SMH).

My Music: Maxwell, BLACKsummer's night Review

My thoughts:

I'm am a passionate fan of Maxwell so this review will definitely be heartfelt and straight to the truth. I must say that listening to a sample of the songs a few weeks ago and seeing him perform on the BET Awards, left me eagerly anticipating his album release.

This entire album is worthy of listening through its entirety and I'm told it's part of a trilogy so we've got more coming. The 10 piece band has a tremendous effect on the emotion that comes from the lyrics. I've read some reviews and disagree for the most part that this album is not as good as his debut. I still think that BLACKsummer's night holds its own in a time where soulful music is becoming irrelevant & non-existent next to souped up studio effects & voices. Maxwell is one of few that can sing live and deliver the same as on his album.

My Favorites:

"Pretty Wing's" was the first single released off the album and is such as a pretty and touching song. It speaks on letting someone go because it's the wrong time. The commanding instruments in "Help Somebody" is as expressive as the lyrics of the song to help and reach out to someone next to you. The music is riveting and connects with your mind, body, and soul all at the same time so I can't imagine what it would be to hear this one live. "Cold" starts off with the bass guitar and intro of other instruments in a melodic blend with Maxwell's crooning....yes it's a winner...enough said!

Conclude:

Overall, this CD should be Number 1 in my opinion. This is one man that is still singing music from the heart that's worth putting on replay. All the while- still giving you an album to satisfy our craving of his music since being from the scene for nearly 8 years. I'm so ecstatic to have been able to add this to my collection. I didn't realize how tired I had grown of hearing studio beats coupled with autotunes to drag out the song. This is real music and this is what we should be demanding...timeless music that every age, every person can enjoy! My goal is to see him live and trust I will one day so I will see you soon Maxwell. Enjoy

Michael Jackson Memorial Today

WE LOVE YOU MICHAEL JACKSON!

We're paying tribute to the greatest of all time, Michael Joseph Jackson, today as the memorial service is going on right now as I type in L.A. His death has had an mpact on people around the world and it's brings to light what type of effect he had on people and how truly talented he was.

Best I Ever Had--Drake

Here's Drake's new video for his hit song (without an album out is amazing)"Best I Ever Had". This was directed by no other than Kanye West so I'm interested to see what he did. My commentary will be underneath. Let me know what you think also.

--The excessive T&A (tits & azz for those that don't know!) bouncing throughout the video is exactly why I don't let my son watch music videos, well unless I've seen them and gave the okay.

--The video didn't really match with the song. I think the concept was funny so I'll give Ye' some credit for that but I was hoping for more.

--Obviously, there weren't any darker skinned women of color on there which was a point brought up by someone else who watched the video. I'll touch on the video models subject later though.

Overall, I think the video could have been better. I'm so tired of seeing half naked women, of any color, plastered all over music videos. What happened to being creative? I really thought Kanye would have brought it with this one since he's usually pretty out of the box with his own. I did think that towards the end the video was funny and had me laughing a little.

Jay-Z -- D.O.A

Jay's video had a world premiere last night after the EBT Awards (*cough, cough*) and I must say that I have really started to love this song. The beat does it for me alone. However, after Hov's performance last night on the awards...I knew this was it.

The set was crisp and clean plus the fact that I could hear everything he was saying. That's a major part of a performance for me and to hear him clearly, yes that sealed the deal for me.

Well, I must say that overall the BET Awards were average. I was really expecting to be blown out of the water with all the tributes to the G.O.A.T...Michael Jackson. I'll be brief about my recap since I have some other posts I want to do today. '

For those out there, Beyonce's performance was actually a prayer coupled with the song, "In the Arms of an Angel" and was dedicated to Michael Jackson. I can't really say I loved her performance because I would have loved to see her do a MJ song. The best performance by far was Maxwell, he really takes a show over with his powerful vocals and classy performance.

I must say I'm extremely disappointed that this show did not bring it as much as I thought it would with the Michael Jackson tribute. I do give them much credit because of the time it takes to flip an entire show but I feel like if they weren't putting their all into it to make it the best....they shouldn't have announced that's what they were going to do. I would have felt much better with a bigger seperate tribute later and a small dedication during the show.

Other thoughts:

I loved Monica and she outsang Keyshia by a mile but they were both great in the end. Monica needs to get that album out soon.

Ciara, I didn't care for her performance at all. She was sitting down and still her voice had no power or connection for me. I was looking for her to do a dance routine.

Guy/Keith Sweat/BBD, I love all three and although Keith sounded like he needed some air all three were great! Much better than the ladies last year, minus EnVogue & TLC.

Keri Hilson, I felt what she was trying to do but um...no.

The most touching moment was when Janet came out. I'm a huge Janet fan also so I was almost in tears just seeing her. Godd Bless the Jackson Family and hopefully one day people can stop spewing all this negativity towards Michael & his family.

On that note, I'm out. Like I said this isn't a gossip blog so I'll try and keep it clean of all that, LOL. There are enough gossip blogs out there so.....

For those that know me, you know I have a blog by the name of Browne & Lovely that focuses more so on my journey of haircare and beauty related posts. I began this blog to focus on how music effects my life. I was contemplating on whether or not to start the blog due to Michael Jackson's untimely passing but since I am a die hard fan of his, I thought it would only be right to touch on what his life, his legacy means to me.

I'll be profiling a variety of topics all related to music. It could be new songs, old songs, artists, music videos, etc... The last interview done with Michael Jackson was with Bryan Monroe of Ebony Magazine. He has the actual audio from the interview and also a interview with Tom Joyner, which I will post below. I never knew the extreme brilliance this man had when it came to music. I always knew he was great but this man had something that few people have in a lifetime and that's to touch the world with his presence. His music will forever live on and keep his memory strong.
